Hi! I'm Miriam James | local artist in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Welcome to Joybrewery, my online art gallery.

I am a firm believer that all things happen for a specific reason. Nothing is happenstance. Such is my journey in creating art.

Since I was little, I've always loved drawing landscapes. My doodles would be of distant mountains and meadows in the background. Trees and what I imagined my house would be, were in the foreground.

This amateur stint was all but forgotten when I went into pre-med. Then life happened; I needed to work and I got a job in graphic design, type-setting & print before going into medical school. My appreciation for beauty and landscapes did not waver throughout my days of post-graduate education. I drew and coloured images of organs that we studied under the microscope, at a cellular level, to aid in studies. It was so cathartic, even then.

A few years ago, I had an accident, which left me with a life of chronic pain. I never imagined I would ever get back to creating art, but God interrupted my life with an awful affliction and gave me a wonderful gift to help cope with my new normal.

Not to oversimplify the tragedies of life by always finding the silver lining in every situation; but you see, I know full well that nothing happens without God's sovereign hand involved, because I am a follower of Jesus Christ. He is the author of all things good and perfect.

I believe that God is the Creator of our world. He has enabled me to be an artist who embodies the ideals of unending beauty & perfection in all of His creation. I am grateful to be living in beautiful British Columbia, as it encourages not only inspiration, but such deep need for passionate expression and limitless interpretation of nature.

My purpose is to create art pieces that will evoke emotion in people, in a unique way. I aim to stir humanity to a greater appreciation of God’s creation, prompting a mighty sense of gratitude to the Creator of the universe.

My art is inspired by my beautiful surroundings, by my imagination, by photos I've taken, and by collaborations with my husband. I sometimes use his photographs as reference to create my art. All of my art is hand-made, original, & one-of-a-kind.
